Known as Mambacita, a play on words of her famous father’s name “Black Mamba, Gigi was a star basketball player coached by her superstar father. Just a month before this tragic helicopter crash which killed the father and daughter along with 7 others, Kobe had filed paperwork to trademark the name Mambacita. The plan was to brand the name on merchandise like sweaters, jerseys, pants and hoodies.
As a rising sports star, with the backing of an NBA legend, the Mambacita line would have easily been a success, and set the young Gigi on her way to being a millionaire possibly even before her 15th birthday. It
While socialites like the Kardashians and Jenners have made a profitable career from posting nude pictures, and questionable relationships, it would have been refreshing to see a young, black girl build a career as a superb athlete and a business mogul.
It is devastating that such a bright light was cut short in such tragic circumstances, depriving the world of the greatness and impact she would have undoubtedly made.
Having her father and Grandfather there to guide her on her journey would have made a beautiful story to inspire millions of young people around the world.
May her soul rest in peace, along with everyone who lost their lives on that sad day.
